Mr Labaran Magaji, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made the appeal on Tuesday in Lafia when he received the leadership of NSUK Alumni Association, led by its National President, Mr Nuhu Egya. GLOBAL nuclear power capacity could more than triple by 2060, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said. AS THE drums of politics begin to sound again with the commencement of campaigns for the 2027 elections, rallies, billboards, media blitzes and display of constituency projects are set to flood the country. While many, including media owners, see this as a harvest time, an opportunity to make money, the time is also critical for the health of the Nigerian economy. Indeed, the campaign season is one period the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) always treated with trepidation. This is because campaign spending, when done in violation of the rules and regulations in the land as many Nigerian politicians are…
BY ABADOM LAWRENCE AMECHI IF YOU have a society of 500 slaves and 25 slave masters, and that society is democratised, you may be surprised that, at every election, one of the slave masters will emerge as the leader. The question that should naturally arise is: Why would 500 people, who possess the numerical strength to determine their own destiny, continue to elect one of the 25 people who have kept them in bondage? The greatest tragedy of oppression is not merely that people are denied their freedom, but that, over time, they may be conditioned to believe that they…

BY OWEI LAKEMFA DEMOCRACY, at least theoretically, is about choice. I have no doubt that our political leaders agree. However, the problem many of those in power have is that Nigerian voters are not mature enough to exercise their right to make a choice. So, they need to be tutored and guided. But if the voters fail to follow simple instructions on who to vote for, they will be punished. Some of the teacher-politicians prefer simple sanctions. Some, severe, such as expulsion from their residential or work areas. Some of our leaders recommend physical punishment, such as breaking fingers and,…
