AN Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday sentenced Ayodeji Oluokun, an assistant pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, Victoria Island, Lagos, to two years imprisonment for issuing a $1.6 million dud cheque. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Oluokun was charged alongside his company, Peak Petroleum Industry Nigeria Ltd., on an amended six-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque, stealing and obtaining money under false pretences. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in her judgment, held that the prosecution had successfully proved the charge of issuance of dud cheque against the defendants.…
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Wednesday ordered that a 47-year-old Chinese National, Geng Quanrong, be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged murder of his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani, 22. The police charged Geng, who lives in Nassarawa GRA Quarters, Kano, with culpable homicide. Chief Magistrate, Hanif Sanusi-Chiroma, who did take the plea of Geng, ordered that he should be remanded in Kurmawa Correctional Centre, pending legal advice. Sanusi-Chiroma adjourned the matter until October13, 2022 for further mention. THE National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said most disputes across Nigeria gradually snowball into armed conflicts and human rights violations due to the absence of peaceful, justice, and equitable resolution in the early stages. THE Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The confirmation followed his screening at the plenary on Wednesday.
