THE Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Monday promised to ease economic and financial sanctions on Mali. Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, made the announcement at the closing press conference of the 61st Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in Accra. THE latest outbreak of the Ebola disease in Congo has officially been declared over, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday. The organisation said that the outbreak affected the north-western Équateur province, with the first case recorded there on April 23. It said that in total, there were four confirmed cases and one suspected case, all patients died of the disease. In a previous outbreak in the province between June and November 2020, a total of 130 cases were detected and 55 people died. THE Federal Capital Territory Vehicle Inspection Office (FCT VIO) has explained why its officers arrest motorists whose number vehicle number plates are faded. According to the spokesperson of FCT VIO, Kalu Emetu, usage of faded vehicle plate numbers is a violation of traffic law and that the arrest of such motorists was to ensure compliance with traffic rules. He said the clarification became necessary following complaints by motorists over the issue.
