        • Demands immediate payment of minimum wage, other benefits to agency’s staff, retirees

The Oyo State Council of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) has called on the state government to immediately take over the affairs of state-owned transport company, Pace Setter Transport Services (PTS) to save it from total collapse.

The call is contained in a letter to the Secretary to the Oyo State Government (SSG) by AUPCTRE’s State Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Mohamed, with reference number AUP/OYSC/ ADM/ VOL. 22/75, dated 17th October 2022 and obtained by National Record.

Comrade Ibrahim stated in the letter entitled; “Re: Industrial Disharmony and Staff Incitement (Save and Reposition Pace Setter Transport From Total Collapse), that the claims made by the management of PTS in an earlier letter to the SSG “further exposed the kind of irresponsible Management [running] the affairs of Pace Setter Transport Services.”

The union, among other things, also demanded for the “immediate payment of minimum wage/enhanced salary structure to the staffers of PTS and also pension and gratuity to those who have retired” while also asking that employees who work more than eight hours be compensated according to the condition of services.

Comrade Ibrahim also asked the state government and other relevant agencies of government to investigate the Board and signatories to the accounts of PTS for what he described as “taking advantage of this present Government by misappropriating the funds of the Company.”

The union also requested the Office of the Head of Service to “come out clean on how Mr. Wole Akinloye became the General Manager after he was dismissed during Governor’s Abiola Ajimobi Administration,” just as it demanded to know the government official that “issued and signed his Letter of Appointment as the General Manager.”

According to the letter, “[t]he unnecessary United Kingdom trip that would be embarked [upon] by the chairman and some members of the Management should be stopped as this has further shown that the Board and Management are not sincere with the collective resources of the Company.”

AUPCTRE also demanded that employees of PTS who are owed salaries, particularly those in the monitoring Department be paid while drivers are to be placed on special allowance in addition to their salaries.

“All manners of harassment and victimization of Union Executives should be stopped.

“Finally, The Union is calling on the State Government to take drastic move to resolve all these grievances and curb the high level of corruption that has further shrunk the growth of the company while the union awaits positive solution without further delay so as to avoid any disastrous industrial harmony in the State,” AUPTRE also noted.
