THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University chapter, has dismissed the announcement by the institutions’ registrar to resume classes, saying it is irresponsible of the registrar to do so since he is not a member of ASUU.
The Union expressed displeasure in the memo released by the registrar describing it as laughable and ridiculous, and an embarrassment to the university community.
In a statement signed by Comrades Peter Adamu and Usman Abbas, chairperson and secretary respectively, the union said it stands with ASUU and asked staff of the Kaduna State University to disregard any form of threat by the registrar in his memo.
“Congress finds the Memo released by the Registrar as laughable and ridiculous because he has never been a member of ASUU, therefore he cannot suspend the strike action in the University.
“The said memo is a gross misconduct and impersonation as there is no evidence to suggest that Council met to deliberate and arrived at such decision,” the statement said as it called on the Kaduna State government, members of the university community and the general public, to applaud ASUU for its patriotism and love for the growth of public tertiary education in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
According to the statement, the ASUU chapter has gone further to set up a five-man committee to investigate the utilisation of Presidential Needs Assessment fund for the university in 2019 and 2021 for the procurement of science related laboratory equipment and construction of 400-seater lecture theatre at the faculty of arts main campus of KASU.
The circular released by the university’s registrar, Mr Samuel Manshop, had stated that the 2020/2021 academic session should commence with effect on 5th September, 2022 else he’ll invoke section2[2] on the staff conditions of service revised edition 2018.
The memo directed all provosts and deans to compile and submit names of complying staff.
