THE Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja Friday evening upheld the decision of the National Industrial Court (NIC) appointing a National Trustee to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Civil Service and conduct election into all elective positions in the union.
The Appeal Court while upholding the NIC judgement delivered by Justice Sanusi Kado in 2018, also nullified the National Delegates Conference of the union in which Comrade Comrade Lawrence Amaechi and 14 other national officers of the union were purportedly elected.
The Appeal Court held that the union acted in contempt of the NIC by going ahead to hold the delegates conference when there was a subsisting ruling ordering the union not to proceed with the conference.
The Amaechi-led leadership of the union, which had repeated being held to be illegal by the courts since 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and recently in January 2022, had appealed the ruling as well as the judgement.
With the Appeal Court judgement on Friday, the NCSU will in a few days be taken over by the court-appointed.
