UNKNOWN gunmen suspected to be bandits Monday night invaded the University of Abuja senior staff quarters, Giri, and abducted unknown number of staff which included professors, their children as well as other senior staff of the university.

A senior staff of the university, who pleaded anonymity as he is not authorised to speak for the institution, said the gunmen began the attack around 11pm Monday night and operated for almost five hours, departing from the quarters, which is located along Abuja-Lokoja dual carriageway, around 4am Tuesday morning.
A source, a senior lecturer in the institution, who also pleaded anonymity, told National Record that about seven persons were abducted.
Among the abducted, the source said, are a professor and two of his children; another professor who escaped abduction had two of his children taken while two non-academic staff were among those abducted by the suspected gunmen.
