THE POLICE on Friday arraigned a 27-year-old sales assistant, Simon Aondofa, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a N600 bottle of malt drink.

Aondofa, of 29 Labat Street, Ojodu, Lagos, appeared before Magistrate A.O. Akinde on a charge of stealing by a clerk or servant.

The prosecutor, ASP Donjor Perezi, told the court that the alleged offence occurred on Oct. 15 at De Prince Supermarket, Isheri, Lagos.

Perezi alleged that Aondofa stole a 33cl bottle of malt drink valued at N600, belonging to the supermarket.

He said the supermarket manager, Chima John, reported the incident after CCTV footage allegedly showed the defendant concealing the drink under his trousers using cellotape.

The prosecutor said the defendant allegedly concealed the drink while preparing to go on a break.

He told the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Aondofa, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Akinde granted him bail in the sum of N30,000, with two reliable sureties.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 16, 2026, for further proceedings. (NAN)
