State Police Will Address Security Gaps – Dare

SPECIAL Adviser to the President on Public Communication, Mr Sunday Dare, has said that allowing states to have their Police Forces would address security gaps in the states.

Dare was reacting to the State Police Bill during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On Podcast.

Already, the Bill has been passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“The Nigerian security situation right now shows a lot of gaps. One of the best options right now to address these gaps is State Police. And I think the government has done the right thing.

“Devolution of power in terms of our security is the best thing. We should let this play out,” he said.

He rejected suggestions that state governors would abuse their respective Police Forces.

“There is a law in this country. This is a federation. You won’t say because you’re APC governor, you’ll violate the law of our country. It’s not going to happen. These assumptions that APC controls most states so they can do anything can’t happen. There is a law and the law will be interpreted,” he said.

He also reacted to criticisms that have trailed the First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu’s advice to women to engage in petty trades to earn additional income for their families.

“She didn’t miss her point. Her point is that whatever it is, try and do something. Have some level of entrepreneurial skills.

“When you look at the informal sector whose resilience continues to lift this economy, it’s because of these small-scale entrepreneurs. They are also significant.

“Go and read Aliko Dangote’s story. Go and read how and where he started from. He also started like a small trader. So, the point the First Lady is making is, whatever it is, be engaged in some kind of enterprise.”

The presidential aide also spoke on Tinubu’s rivals ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly Mr Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the NDC.

“This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance. We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country.

“Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded across the country, and we have a scorecard to show,” he said. (NAN)
