GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia has approved the appointment of Hon. Mathias Agbo Omikpa as Special Adviser on Rural Development and Community Mobilization, a move aimed at advancing grassroots governance and accelerating development in rural communities across Benue State.
The appointment, announced in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, is said to be part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure development and enhance community engagement throughout the state.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects Governor Alia’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people by fostering stronger community participation and implementing policies that address the needs of rural populations.
Hon. Omikpa is described as an accomplished administrator, human resources professional, entrepreneur and politician with extensive experience spanning public service, political coordination and business management.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and a Diploma in Personnel Management from Benue State University, Makurdi.
Before his appointment, Omikpa served as Executive Director of OMIX Group, Ugbokolo, a position he held from 2012. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing operations, agricultural and enterprise management, staff supervision and business development.
His public service experience includes serving as an elected Councillor representing Amejo Ward in Okpokwu LGA. He also played significant roles in political mobilization and campaign management, serving as Director-General of the Daniel Onjeh Campaign Organization and as Campaign Coordinator for the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign in Benue South Senatorial District.
At the national level, Omikpa was a member of the Federal Government’s Extended Special Public Works Programme Selection Committee in Benue State. He also participated in the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections, among other assignments.
The Benue State Government expressed confidence in Omikpa’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s development agenda, particularly in rural communities where infrastructure needs and community engagement remain critical priorities.
Governor Alia noted that Omikpa’s wealth of experience, leadership capacity and commitment to public service would play an important role in strengthening rural development initiatives and enhancing community mobilization efforts across the state.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
