IN A FORMAL ceremony in Makurdi, Benue State capital, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Enemari Ifeanyi Innocent, decorated 456 police officers who were elevated from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II).
The exercise was part of a broader national promotion initiative recently authorised by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
A statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, confirmed that the Commissioner congratulated the newly promoted officers and expressed appreciation to God, the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police for making the promotions possible.
Addressing the officers, CP Ifeanyi urged them to view their new ranks as a call to enhanced responsibility, stressing the importance of leadership, integrity, and unwavering service to the people of Benue State and Nigeria.
He emphasised that with promotion comes heightened expectations in discipline, operational effectiveness, community engagement, and respect for human rights.
The command reiterated its dedication to fostering professionalism and boosting morale within the force.
According to the statement; “The decoration of these officers is not only a recognition of past performance but also an investment in improved service delivery, enhanced security operations, and better community policing across the state.”
The nationwide promotion exercise, described as one of the largest in the history of the Nigeria Police Force, saw the Police Service Commission approve the advancement of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of ASP II, based on recommendations by the IGP.
This mass promotion underscores the force leadership’s commitment to rewarding hard work, professionalism, and long-standing service.
The Benue State Police Command extended its best wishes to all the newly decorated officers as they assume their new roles.
