SENATOR representing Kogi Central, Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan, has expressed sympathy with former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, following the fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed the lives of two of his team members on Monday.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, the senator conveyed her condolences to Joshua over the emotional burden arising from the tragic incident, noting that many Nigerians stand in solidarity with him during the difficult moment.
“Sorry for the emotional pain and weight you will have to bear. The good people of Nigeria sympathize with you,” Akpoti wrote.
She also lamented the circumstances surrounding the crash, particularly the presence of a stationary truck on the highway and what she described as the country’s weak emergency response system.
According to her, while the situation was unfortunate, roadside Nigerians and security personnel made efforts to respond to the emergency.
“If I could wish on a shooting star, I’d wish the stationary truck not be there; I’d wish an efficient emergency response. Alas, ordinary roadside Nigerians and the police did their best today,” she stated.
The senator further offered prayers for the deceased, describing them as friends of the boxer and wished them eternal rest.
“May the souls of your friends rest in peace,” she added.
The Ogun State Government had earlier confirmed that two foreign nationals died in the accident, while Anthony Joshua and his driver sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The incident has continued to spark public reactions, with renewed calls for improved road safety and emergency response systems across the country.
