THE FEDERAL Ministry of Education has directed the immediate closure of forty-seven Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) across Nigeria, citing recent security challenges in some parts of the country.

The directive was contained in a circular wrongly dated, 21st December 2025, and signed by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education.

The circular, with reference number FME/DSSE/GM/S.160/C.II, states that the decision was made to prevent any potential security breaches.

“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) with immediate effect,” the document reads.

It further instructs that “Principals of affected Colleges are to ensure strict compliance.”

The list of affected schools includes Federal Government Colleges (FGC), Federal Government Girls Colleges (FGGC), Federal Science Colleges (FSC), and Federal Technical Colleges (FTC) spread across various states.

The circular concludes by extending the “warm regards of the Honourable Minister.”

This mass closure symbolises the prevailing panic and sense of siege, as well as government’s heightened precautionary measures to safeguard students and educational infrastructure amid ongoing security concerns.

Parents and guardians of students in the affected institutions are advised to await further communication from school authorities regarding the evacuation and academic calendar.

FGGC KAZAURE mentioned twice, serial numbers 16 and 32.
