A MAKURDI Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, ordered the remand at the correctional service, of three defendants charged with culpable homicide, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP)

The defendants, Emmanuel Kayode, Gabriel Ameh and Owoicho Ogiri, were brought before the Magistrate, Mr Kevin Mbanongun, on charges which bordered on conspiracy, and culpable homicide

They were alleged to have caused the death of one Michael Akoche.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pleas of the defendants were not taken by the Magistrate for lack of justification.

The court adjourned the case until Jan 15, 2026, pending legal advice from the DPP.

The trio, who reside in Otukpo, Benue, were alleged to have committed the offense with others who are now at large.

They were said to have attacked the deceased on Oct. 27, at his mother’s shop, and inflicted injury on his head which eventually led to his death

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State 2004. (NAN)
