THE RE-ENTRY into Ogoniland for oil production has been described as a historic turning point for Nigeria, signalling a new era of reconciliation and community-focused development.

A press release, dated Friday, September 26, and signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., revealed that the announcement was made during the presentation of the Ogoni Consultations Report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

President Tinubu described the development as a core part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “We are not, as a government, taking lightly the years of pain endured in Ogoniland. We recognise that, otherwise we would not be here today,” the President stated as he declared that the re-entry signifies that “hope is here and is back with us.”

Echoing the President’s sentiments, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, called the re-entry a reaffirmation of the company’s commitment to the Ogoni re-entry plan.

He emphasised that the move represents a step towards justice, healing, and national prosperity. “The re-entry into Ogoniland is not just about oil and gas. It is about justice, healing, and charting a new future for our nation,” Ojulari said.

Officials stated that the milestone demonstrates that oil production can coexist with environmental stewardship and inclusive nation-building.

The successful consultation process was credited to a committee convened by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, which fostered dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

Engr. Ojulari confirmed that NNPC Ltd. has already initiated community development projects, including road construction and economic empowerment programs, to build trust and ensure local communities benefit directly.

“NNPC Ltd is determined to transform Ogoniland from a symbol of conflict into a beacon of reconciliation, renewal, and sustainable progress,” he concluded.

The event positioned the Ogoni re-entry as a message to the international community, showcasing a model where energy development is reconciled with environmental protection and community inclusion.
