THE BENUE State House of Assembly on Tuesday afternoon confirmed the nomination of Dr Timothy Yangien Ornguga, and Mr. James Dwen as commissioners in the state. This followed the reported representation of their name by Governor Hyacinth Alia to the House on Tuesday.
Dr Ornguga, an Associate Professor of Law at the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), (formerly Benue State University), was last week rejected by the State House of Assembly following petition from his current and former students over alleged psychological abuse, vindictiveness, and what they described as his ‘sadistic’ inclinations.
Ornguga is alleged to be a younger brother to the Tor Tiv V, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, the Paramount Ruler/King of Tiv Nation and President, Tiv Area Traditional Council and chairman, Benue State council of Chiefs.
The Assembly had turned down Ornguga’s nomination, along with that of another commissioner-nominee, Mr. James Dwen, who was then rejected as a result of his inability to sufficiently respond to two petitions against him which bordered on embezzlement and misappropriation of local government funds while serving as the Chairman of Makurdi LGA.
Following the screening and approval of Ornguga and Dwen, the Assembly went ahead and suspended the former speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh for three months.
