THE TARKA LGA Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned the alleged removal of the Benue State Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Maurice Ikpambese, as well as the suspension of Tarka constituency representative, Hon. Manger Manger, and 12 other lawmakers by the Benue State House of Assembly.
Speaking at an event held in Wannune, Tarka local government headquarters on Monday, attended by the party faithful from all ten council wards of the LGA, the APC Chairman, Shiaondo Tarka, and Secretary, Shinkyo Adi, described the Assembly’s actions as unconstitutional, undemocratic, and a display of desperation.
The party criticised the House leadership for what it called an illegal and politically motivated attempt to undermine the judiciary and silence lawmakers who remain committed to their constitutional duties.
The party in Tarka said it aligns itself with the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), emphasising adherence to Sections 153, 271, and 292(ii) of the 1999 Constitution.
The party also urged the House of Assembly to reverse the CJ’s purported removal and reinstate the suspended lawmakers.
It also demanded the immediate release of statutory entitlements due to Hon. Manger and his colleagues.
Despite these challenges, the APC Tarka Chapter commended Hon. Manger’s achievements, including borehole projects across Tarka, scholarships for over 300 indigenous students, and the construction of an administrative block at Mbakor Community Secondary School, Wannune.
The chapter warned against any further attempts to suppress the legislature and judiciary, urging the people of Mbakor to remain vigilant.
It also reaffirmed its confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Senator Titus Zam, Hon. Regina Akume, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for their leadership.
