BENUE State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has approved counterpart funds for the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grants for the development of basic education in the state.
Chairperson, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, announced this Wednesday at a stakeholder sensitisation meeting in Makurdi.
On the implementation of the 2023-2024 School-Based Management Committee School Improvement Program (SBMCS), organised Tuesday in Makurdi by SUBEB in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Adagba said government was to use the fund to fix decayed infrastructure in public schools which has been a major concern, provide instructional materials, and ensure regular training of teachers.
She assured teachers of the governor’s commitment to their welfare, promising that they were being carried along in ongoing negotiations for implementation of the new minimum wage.
Dr Adagba also emphasised the desire of the administration to achieve total success in the implementation of the Intervention and Consort Education Secretaries, who are focal persons of implementing committees in various domains, not to mismanage the responsibility given to them.
“Do not allow your traditional rulers to have the opportunity to report to my office. You know the program that you have, the collaboration with the UBEC, and the members that you are going to have to ensure that the implementation is done correctly,” Adagba cautioned the focal persons.
