THE BENUE State Government is to partner with the interim executive committee of the Benue State University Alumni Association (BSUAA) to end the lingering crisis bedevilling the association to pave the way for peace and development of the alma mater and the state at large.

Commissioner of Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Frederick Ikyaan, gave the assurances Friday in his office when he received in audience a delegation of BSUAA led by the Interim National Chairman of the association, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua.

Dr Ikyaan, who is also an Alumnus of the university, urged members of BSUAA to eschew personal interest for the sake of corporate interest so as to achieve lasting peace, appreciating Prof. Amua for his desire and commitment towards ending the crisis

“I want to thank you because you have been saddled with the responsibility of bringing sanity to this group that has been bastardized. Of course, if you don’t have solution to a lingering problem, you will end up compounding the problem and going away. But we are praying that you are going to bring a solution to this lingering crisis that has been with the alumni for such a long time.

“In spite of all these, God decided to choose you with your team. So, I want you to do your best and put an end once and for all that the rest of the history of this university will not bear Alumni crisis any longer. Somebody has to start a crisis, another person has to end it even though you knew nothing about it, but because you are an alumnus of this university, it’s your responsibility to look into it.

“Today, I want to tell you that you have inherited the problem and it’s your responsibility to look for enduring solutions not to complain, not to blame, not to shift blame to anyone. That’s why you are here and we look forward to partnering with you truly and very sincerely so that we will solve this problem so that even if you are not able to do any other thing, you should bring peace to the Benue University Alumni so that upcoming generation, younger people stepping into this field of education will benefit from the labour that you are going to engage in now”, Ikyaan advised.

Earlier, the BSUAA Interim National Chairman, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua, said the essence of the visit was to felicitate with the commissioner on his appointment and to pledge partnership with the ministry to improve education in the state.

He lamented that the association has been unable to partner with the state government through the Ministry of Education to promote the cause of education in the state even as he recalled that BSU was established since 1992 and has produced graduates who are now professors including himself.

Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the courtesy visit on how the alumni association would partner with the Benue state government to improve education, Prof. Amua said the membership of the alumni comprised over 250,000 graduates since the inception of the university and they will be put into strategic partnership to penetrate with knowledge and literacy to the nooks and crannies of the state.

“Another way we can do that is, for some of us, we have been involved with education. So, we have amassed and accumulated a wealth of knowledge over the years. We can make it freely available as our contribution back to the state for having educated us through establishment of the Benue state university and this wealth of knowledge will be made available to the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management at no cost. That is one way we can partner with the ministry and the state government”.

In a vote of thanks, BSUAA Interim National Publicity/Organising Secretary, Comrade Johnson Ehi Daniel, appreciated Dr Ikyaan for his assurances for partnership and promised that the Exco would act accordingly on the advice of the commissioner to end the crisis rocking the association.
