NIGERIAN WORKERS‘ protest against economic hardship, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has been popularly tagged: ‘Hunger Protest’, started early in Makurdi, Benue State capital, when members of NLC affiliate unions in the state and their civil society allies gathered at the NLC State Secretariat located along Makurdi-Aliade Road.
The protesters commence the march to Government House en route Wurukum Roundabout.
On arrival at the main gate of the Government House, the protesters were received by the Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Internal Security, Mr Joseph Har.

Mr Har, who urged the protesters to conduct themselves in orderly manner, told the protesters that though Governor Alia was not available, they would be received by his Chief of Staff, Mr Paul Biam.
The Special Adviser to Governor Alia on Labour Matters later appeared and asked that a few leaders of organised labour be selected to follow him to have audience with the Chief of Staff in his office, a proposal that was outrightly rejected by the protesters who insisted that the governor’s representative must come out and address them.
Protesters were still at the gate as at press time.
