THE Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, for what members described as his accommodating leadership style.
Member representing Tiev Constituency, Hon. Terkaa Ucha, moved a motion of urgent public importance calling on his colleagues to pass a vote of confidence on the Speaker, saying his leadership style had endeared him to all members.
In his contribution, member representing Tarka Constituency and Minority Leader of the House, Bem Mngutyo, who seconded the motion also corroborated Ucha’s statement that the Speaker has been carrying all members along regardless of party affiliation and urged him to sustain his all-inclusive leadership style.
Responding, Rt. Hon. Uba, who presided over the plenary for the first time after his recovery from covid-19, thanked Governor Samuel Ortom, his colleagues and staff of the Assembly for their prayers and support while he was down with the disease and assured that the vote of confidence passed on him would spur him to do more.
Medical, Emergency Rescue Services Bill Passes 2nd Reading
Also on Tuesday, the Medical and Emergency Rescue Services Bill 2020 passed second reading at the House. Presenting the executive bill, the majority leader, Damian Cheme, said when passed, the bill would lead to the establishment of Emergency Rescue Medical teams across the state to promptly respond to emergency cases to reduce death rate.
In their contributions, Deputy Speaker of the House, Christopher Adaji, Bem Mngutyo and Terseer Gbishe, all described the bill as one of the best things to happen in the state. They concurred that the bill when passed would guarantee prompt attention to victims of accidents and other emergencies as well as create employment opportunities for people.
The Speaker also noted the importance of the bill saying it would also protect NGOs willing to be part of the program. After his called for the bill to be read on the floor of the House for the second time passed, it was referred to the Committee on Health for the requisite procedures.
The bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Benue State Bureau of Archives, Research and documentation sponsored by the Speaker and 29 members also scaled first reading.
