THE Benue State Government has announced the dissolution of the Governing Council of the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi with immediate effect.

Governor Hyacinth Alia who announced the decision Monday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said a 7-member “visitation panel” is to investigate the activities of the BSU from 2016 when the last panel visited.

The panel which is headed by Prof. Gabriel Moti as Chairman has Barr Simon Orkuma as Secretary while Prof. Kwaghkondo Agber, Igyeigye Peter, Prof. Christie Ekoja, Mr. Sam Yuhwa and Prof. Okpe Okpe are members.

According to the CPS, a letter conveying Governor Alia’s order as signed by the Secretary to the Government of Benue State, Prof. Joseph Alakali, contains other terms of reference of the panel.

Kula however did not attach a copy of the correspondence on his Facebook wall for the public to know the other terms of reference.

The panel which was supposed to be inaugurated on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 8am at Government House, Makurdi few hours after the dissolution of the Governing Council was announced at about 6am was however postponed indefinitely for undisclosed reasons when journalists had already set their cameras for coverage and waited from 8am till after 11am.
