THE embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has finally been consumed by the intra-party crisis as he stepped down Tuesday a day after a Makurdi High Court order restraining him from parading himself as the party’s chairman.

Following the court injunction, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) took a decision Tuesday in Abuja asking Ayu to step aside, quoting that the decision is in line with section 45 of the PDP’s constitution (as amended).

The NWC thereafter appointed Ayu’s deputy from the North, Iliya Damagum, who resumed duty in acting capacity with immediate effect, pending the ruling of the Makurdi High Court in April, 2023.

National Record had reported how Ayu was suspended by the PDP executives from his Ingyorov council ward in Gboko LGA of Benue State for alleged anti-party activities.

Consequent upon his suspension, a Benue State High Court sitting in Makurdi presided over by the Honourable Justice Wilfred Kpochi, on March 27, 2023 restrained Ayu from parading himself as the PDP National Chairman and adjourned the case till April 17, 2023 for hearing of the substantive suit.
