THE Benue State Government is to sell one bag of 50kg of NPK fertilizer to farmers at twelve thousand, five hundred naira only (N12,500). The selling price is said to be hugely subsidised by the government as the market price said to be twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000).
This means that the government will bear fifty percent of the cost of each of the 50kg bag of NPK fertilizer thereby making the product affordable to all farmers to cushion their hardship.
Governor of the state, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, announced this Wednesday in Makurdi when he flagged off the distribution of one hundred trucks of fertilizers to farmers in all the 23 local government areas of the state.
Governor Alia who bought fifty bags of fertilizer to be given to the “most wretched farmers” present at the event warned that anyone, no matter how highly placed, caught sabotaging government’s efforts will face severe sanctions.
Alia also reiterated his commitment to providing security in rural areas to enable farmers work without fear of attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen
Earlier, in his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, represented by the Director, Administration and Supply at the ministry, Mr Nath Adzuu, thanked the governor for providing basic farming incentives to farmers to boost their productivity.
